Design Inspiration: Watches

Design inspiration can come from anywhere, for me watches are one of the most inspirational products because they embody function and beauty.

When I was younger I gravitated towards brands like Omega and Rolex, because these watches are continuously popularized by movies and pop culture as the top notch watches. Don’t get me wrong, they are excellent watch companies. As I fast forward to present time, I look at life and products differently. I now try to find watches from companies that strive to push the boundaries of design, no matter what brand or what it represents in terms of status.

I look at watch cases with circular bodies and feel like they are all being too traditional in design. For example a watch brand that I enjoy looking at is URWerks, I can’t support the price point but I can appreciate what they are doing to push innovation in the watch industry. Some other watches that I currently enjoy in an attractive price points are the Hamilton Ventura, it has a triangular shape body and Phantom Labs watches. Both Hamilton and Phantom Labs watches have similar theme of using blacked out skeleton face and utilizing red or orange in the right places to give it contrast. I enjoy looking at watches for the intricacy of the designs and attention to details.
