If you can’t be Batman, then be John Wick
When I am not working on new designs 12 to 14 hours a day, my preferred way to relax is to watch television and not too complex action movies. Don’t get me wrong, I do like movies that require thinking when I am not tired. After a long day I don’t feel like doing any more complex thinking. One of my favorites all time movies is John Wick played by Keanu Reeves, it is action packed and the story line is easy to follow. The premise of the movie is basically John Wick taking revenge for his dog’s death. A dog who was a gift from his recently deceased wife. It turns out John Wick the main character, is also a retired legendary assassin.
The movie creates a world around the life of an assassin and their code of ethics. What makes this movie great is its attention to details, which is extremely important to me and translates to my designs. Details make simple items feel more interesting. The devil is truly in the details, so I can appreciate the thought and time it takes to create these elements. The guns, suits, fight scenes, coins, cars, houses and environments are all carefully selected to create the special look and feel for the movie. The styling for the movie is a neo gothic modern. There are many elements from past but these elements are also merge into the modern era.
The fight scenes are well choreographed artistic dances, Keanu spent months training with some of the best martial artists and firearms instructors. If you haven’t scene this movie I highly recommend it, both for the design elements and pure entertainment. They are currently making a John Wick 4.
